PSHE/RSE

What does PSHE/RSE look like in our ACORN curriculum – INTENT & IMPLEMENTATION

A: Our PSHE and RSE curriculum is underpinned by our School Values and British Values, helping children develop into responsible, respectful and active citizens. Through learning about themselves, others and the wider world, pupils build positive attitudes towards diversity, equality and inclusion. We promote local and global environmental awareness, encouraging children to understand their role in creating a sustainable future and making positive contributions to society.

C: We foster a strong sense of belonging and identity, ensuring that every child feels valued, included and respected. Through PSHE and RSE, pupils learn about themselves, their families, the diverse communities in which they live and the wider world around them. Children develop self-awareness, celebrate differences and gain an understanding of how diversity, heritage and personal experiences enrich our community. They are equipped with the knowledge and skills to overcome challenges, build self-confidence and show respect for others.

O: Our PSHE and RSE curriculum provides regular opportunities for pupils to develop their communication skills through discussion, debate, reflection and collaborative learning. Children are taught the vocabulary needed to discuss personal, social, health and relationship topics with confidence and sensitivity. We create a safe and respectful environment where pupils can express opinions, ask questions, listen to different viewpoints and engage in meaningful dialogue.

R: Positive relationships are at the heart of our PSHE and RSE curriculum. Pupils learn the importance of kindness, empathy, respect, cooperation and collaboration, developing the skills needed to build healthy relationships throughout their lives. They learn how relationships may change over time and explore concepts such as fairness, equality, diversity and mutual respect. Through this learning, children become thoughtful, compassionate individuals who can contribute positively to modern British society.

N: Our curriculum supports children in developing the knowledge, skills and resilience needed to navigate life successfully. Through a progressive programme of learning, pupils build an understanding of physical health, mental wellbeing, personal safety, healthy relationships and economic wellbeing. Children learn to recognise and regulate their emotions, make informed decisions, manage challenges and seek support when needed. We aim to develop confident, aspirational and resilient individuals who are well-prepared for the opportunities and responsibilities of the future.

IMPACT

When our pupils leave us, they will have developed their wider subject knowledge and understanding about themselves and the world around them. They will have learnt a bank of personal skills which will help them throughout their life. They will be confident young pupils who have developed their own personal views and who are willing to try new things, face challenges and persevere with their goals. Our pupils will be tolerant and respectful of the views and beliefs of others, showing compassion to others.
